FOCUS ON COMMUNICATION

At Gateway, our top priority is to teach individuals to communicate.  Gateway's therapeutic model focuses first and foremost on developing communication skills between individuals and their surrounding world. Communication skills encompass everything from spoken language, behaviors, body language, vocal verbal/non-verbal language, and pragmatic language. Our clinicians foster these skills using the Verbal Behavior Approach, which prioritizes teaching individuals to express their wants and needs, allowing them to effectively communicate.

 INTENSIVE SERVICE MODEL
Based upon research, empirical evidence, and experience, Gateway follows best practices utilizing an intensive service model to ensure the highest level of therapy is delivered to maximize an individual's potential.

Research shows that to maximize the benefits of ABA services, individuals should be enrolled in direct, 1:1 services for 25-40 hours per week. Since it is medically necessary, insurance companies cover ABA services based upon the individual's diagnosis and current level of need.

PARENT COLLABORATION AND SUPPORT

An integral part of ABA therapy services is parent engagement and involvement which centers on parent collaboration and support. These meetings are customized to each family's needs, but typically benefit the everyday functioning of families such as sleep, selective eating, behavior reduction, safety skills, etc.  Through these meetings, parents are able to implement aspects of the therapy out of session times to help generalize the skills being taught within the natural environment  Through parent collaboration and support meetings, ABA therapy becomes the individual's world, unlocking their fullest potential.

BUILDING INDEPENDENCE

In addition to focusing on communication, our clinicians also develop individualized plans to teach self-help skills.  For some individuals, this may include helping them integrate into their community - bridging the gap between the individual and the world around them.   We also provide individualized supports to help build the skills, confidence, and ability to improve working and volunteering experiences. Through this approach, individuals often develop meaningful and fulfilling lives as their diagnosis is no longer a barrier to their success.
